Take a look at this one. It's the Jardin Chair from Crate and Barrel. I think I could make that work in my house.

The caption for this one was "...and you kiss your mama with that mouth?"
My caption is "...I'm speechless"

Of course, it's from here.

Hippy Dippy!

Today was the first day of school for my kids.

Of course we took the traditional "first day of school" photos.

Yummy: Olympic Style

Hello, hottie!

Mmm...his swimsuit is so low!

Look at this! If he didn't have underwear on, I am afraid we would see his pubus!

This is the Jaclo Rainbar. I don't know about you, but it doesn't look very much like rain to me at all, for one thing that would be one heck of a wind for the rain to come that direction. From one website:

Jaclo is now offering a range of refreshing modern bathroom fixtures to suit all tastes and needs. Keen on a power shower? You will love the unusual side-mounted Jaclo Rainbar – an adjustable rainbar that brings a powerful car wash effect into your modern shower stall.

A car wash effect? I love me a great shower, but probably not a car wash!

My New Shirt

I got this shirt (for 40% off even!) while I was on vacation. I have worn it 2 times since I got home on Friday! I am so in love with it!
It is Stewart + Brown, from his organic line. It fits beautifully and even minimizes my large bustedness. Have a look for yourself at the line. I think you might like it!

I Gotta Get This:

Sunday, August 10, 2008

Look at this Alexander Henry fabric, called Pink Zinnia (first spotted in this month's Cookie Magazine). I think I must get it!
Does it remind you of this, that I am in love with too?

Lookie! Lookie!

Orange pillow covers and orange trays from West Elm. Zebra fabric from J Caroline Creative.
See that there photo? It is of my back porch. Just this minute I finished making that brown and white zebra pillow.

Her? You say...she can sew? Well, not really, but I DID make that pillow, and re-covered those ottomans.. Here are a few things I learned along the way:

  1. Cutting the fabric and making the welt in May and finishing the pillow in August doesn't allow a lot of time for enjoying it.

  2. A glass of wine makes it a lot easier to rip out and re-do stitches.

  3. Although pins seem to be a waste of time, they really are helpful.

Thanks for looking! Now I'm off to sew something else!

Hello My Pretties...

Friday, August 8, 2008

I have been on a short vacation with the fam. Hope the four of you didn't miss me too much!

Crested Butte, CO was a blast, and the kids were actually pretty good (all things considered). Will post more as soon as the bags are un-packed and the laundry done!

Yet Another Reunion Story

Sunday, August 3, 2008

A few months ago when we were starting on this whole 20th HS reunion thing, Some of my friends decided I would be good at the job of finding classmates. I think because I still live in the town we graduated from, they thought that I would see lost of folks out and about the town...whatever.

So I was at the mall one day and I saw, sitting at a table in the food court, one of our classmates. Mind you that I couldn't for the life of me think of her name, but I was sure she graduated with us. I approached her table and had the following conversation:

Me: "Did you go to Central?"

TB (her): "Uh, Yeah"

Me: "Didn't you graduate in 1989?"

TB: "Yeah"

Me: "Great, so we're working on the 20th reunion and I was wondering if I could have your email address so I could forward the link to our website to you?"

TB: "Um, OK"

Me: "Thanks so much! I will email you soon. Good to see you!"

She thought I was some sort of stalker or something. I know it. I mean, I think she might have recognized me, but she was totally hesitant to give me her email address, and didn't really make eye contact.

A few weeks later, I finally got around to digging her address out of my purse, and I send her the link. Guess what? The email got returned. I KNEW IT! She totally gave me a fake email address. Nice.

Zinnias

Zinnia image from here

The Zinnias are blooming here in Central Kansas. I hope someday my daughter will want to get married in the late summer and will want bouquets fill of colorful Zinnias. Maybe I will have a daughter-in-law who will want some too...hmmmm.....

Blast from the past #2

You might remember that my 20th HS reunion is coming up next summer. Maybe you remember I had lunch the other week with one of the hotties from back in the day. Well, this week was lunch #2...this time with an old flame.

No, this isn't RY, but could have been in 6th grade. (It is really this kid)

RY and I have been friends since like 6th grade when he moved from Minnesota and he was into "goosing." Remember that? When someone grabbed your butt from behind? Well, he brought that wonderful thing from his state to our little town when he moved here. I remember it as annoying, exciting, dreadful and wonderful all at the same time. If you got goosed, I guess he liked you enough to want to grab your ass. On the other hand, it was annoying and embarrassing as we WERE in 6th grade. But I digress...

So, RY and I didn't date in HS (that's a whole other story), but we were always each other's date to parties in college when needed. I often had a boyfriend, but "between opportunities" I always hung out with him. We always had a great time. Lots of alcohol was usually consumed and kissing usually ensued. After some time of this, we kind of "hung out." We didn't really date but we did sleep together a few times.

RY was the one I always thought would be the best kind of boyfriend...the kind I could change. He was never really into boyfriend-like things, including flowers, candle-lit dinners, and formals. I thought I could change that. Since we were not really dating, I could grill him about these things pretty easily. I asked questions like "What did you get femaleX for her birthday last year?" (He always responded "Nothing.") Or "When you dated MM, did you get her flowers for things like anniversaries?" (His response: "No.") I quickly learned he wasn't the kind of person I thought I needed as a boyfriend/husband.

As we got older and graduated from college, we kept in touch. I was pleasantly surprised to get an invitation to his wedding. We started exchanging Holiday cards. When I was in his town, we would get together for lunch. When he was home visiting his parents, he'd call and we'd catch up. We email fairly regularly.

So, as I was getting the list of names together that I could contact for our reunion, of course I said I knew his email. Once again, he said he would be in he would be in town, and my emailing got the best of me. We made a lunch date. He picked my up in his mother-in-law's car, and we had Italian. Wonderful conversation ensued, with talk of economy here vs. Denver, new positions at our jobs, family, kids and travel.

I had a great time and remembered all of the things I loved about him all this time. We decided that we would be each other's "back-up." Just in case (God-forbid) something ever happened to our respective spouses.

This reunion thing is fun!

House Number Pillows

Thursday, July 31, 2008

I love the idea from BHG's 100 Decorating Ideas for Under $100 (Summer 2008) for house number pillows. Since I am lame and don't own a scanner, and I couldn't scan in the pic, I did find an example from Lowe's for you:

I do like the ones from BHG better though. One number per pillow in a cool font. I have a bench in front of my house, I think I might just have to make that a fall project! Or what a fun housewarming gift for someone!

I Think I am in Love

Saturday, July 19, 2008

with you.

OMG! Part deux

Friday, July 18, 2008

So, we went to lunch. I waited until about 11:15am to call him, thinking (hoping) maybe he had made other plans or something. Lucky me, I got his voice mail, and I left an innocent message something to the tone of: "Just calling to see if you still wanted to have lunch. If so, give me a call at 867-5309...(kidding about the number there!)

As I was waiting (hoping) he would call me back, I started curling my hair. Yes, I actually got out my curling iron and curled my hair. Shit! I so totally felt like I was in high school. Waiting for that guy to call me back after I left his mother with a message to call me. However, I must say that after I was done curling, make-uping and dressing, I looked HOTT! I mean, seriously, HOTT. I don't look that good when I go out for date night with my hubby. How bad is that?

Here is what I wore:

This shirt is from Target's GO International collection, and I love it. Kinda see thru, but great with a cotton camisole under it.

Citizen of Humanity Ava Stretch Skinny Jeans. I didn't actually wear these because i don't actually own them, but I did wear my dark skinny-ish jeans. I have to admit that If I actually looked like this photo, he would have taken me right there on the table, no doubt in my mind

My Rocket Dog black canvas shoes with that cutest little wedge heel.

So, basically I looked like this:

Image from here, via here.

Except, without the black turtleneck, and jeans instead of camel slacks, but you get my drift.

He actually does call me back and I go meet him at "the shimmy." That's the one-of-a-kind pizza restaurant that everyone has to go to when they are back in town. I walk in to find him, his wife (who is 9 years younger by the way) and his father (who is a family friend of my parents). This is going to be good...I am thinking.

He sees me immediately upon my entering, walks over and shoots a huge good-to-see-you smile, and gives me a hug...melting...he.gave.me.a.hug. I don't think I ever touched him in high school. As we sit, they tell me they ordered a dream (like McDreamy???) pizza and would that be ok? I say no, I will just have a salad (damn cleanse) and stare across at the table at him. He is looking hot with a green tee-shirt and khaki shorts. He has put on a few pounds, but well, so have I (at least I have 2 children to show for it). His wife is cute in a waify-26-year-old-merely-a-child-with-no-boobs sort of way.

He starts asking me about my family, the kids, my husband, and, well...he is looking at me. Like LOOKING at me. Intently listening to my every word and looking directly into my eyes sort of way. SHIT! Once I realize this, I can no longer make eye contact with him because I am like "why are you looking at me that way?" I mean he was directly looking into my eyes and almost hanging on my words. I kind of had a flip-floppy stomach over it all. His wife was right there for gosh sake!

Lunch was great, conversation was great, and we all walked out. We said our goodbyes, hugged again, and off I went in my Volvo station wagon, looking like Jackie O.

I think I am making a big deal out of nothing, but I can't help thinking about why he was looking at me like that. Maybe he is just a really good, direct eye-contact person like that. Maybe I looked just like I did in HS and he couldn't believe his eyes. Maybe he regrets not keeping in better touch.

Who knows, but all I know is that it was fun, and we'll keep in touch now. And I will keep thinking about those eyes...

Stay tuned for what are sure to be many more 20-year reunion happenings!

OPI Nail Color

I have always wished I was creative enough to come up with just one name for an OPI nail color. They have the best names for their stuff. My toes are currently wearing Lunch at the Delhi from the India collection...but check them all out!

OMG!

Thursday, July 17, 2008

So, a quick post before I go help one of my BFFs move into her new house down the street from me:

Next summer will be 20 my year high school reunion (and SGM's too). We are already working on contacting people and getting them to register on our class website. You see, I was the kind of person in HS who wasn't very popular, was on both the debate squad and the dance team and the swim team. I had a wonderful group of friends that I am still very close to this day, and we weren't in the popular group, but we grew up with all of those people, so we knew them. I would say I was in the "tweener" group. We weren't dorks, but weren't popular either.

So...I am also the kind of person who will call anyone, and I have returned to the town where we graduated from. This means that people think that I can find most of our classmates (NOT!). But because I will call anyone, I have managed to track down quite a few of our 'mates. Many of whom were "popular."

No, this isn't DD, but he did graduate in 1989. More 1989 graduates here.

One of these 'mates was a totally cute guy. After I contacted him about the site, we emailed and turns out he in here in town this week. So, my fingers got a little out of control on one email and said "we should have lunch while you are in town." Jeezus, why did I do that? All of the emotions from HS about not being good enough, I look like a dork, I am not in the popular crowd, etc. came flooding back.

Much to my surprise, he wanted to have lunch and catch up.

So, I just got back from said lunch...

And you'll have to wait until the next post to see how it went!

This is the Bomb

Friday, July 11, 2008

I have just had myself a wonderfully cleansing lunch of an apple (Pink Lady variety, of course!) and MaraNatha Organic Peanut Butter. Holy Cow, it is the best! Run your skinny asses out and git-you-sum!

Help, they've fallen and I can't keep them up!

Thursday, July 10, 2008

OK, so this is not exactly the image that goes with he title of this post, but damn, it cracked me up! It's from here, if you care to read about British football (I think that is soccer for us in the ole US of A)

I just wanted to tell you that an unexpected development has occurred as a result of this cleanse I am doing: I can't keep my pants up! Yes, girls and boys, this is true! I kid you not!

It has been a mere 4 days since I started and my pants are looser. I really am not doing this as a way to lose weight (not that I couldn't stand for that to happen) but what a great result! I must say that I do feel great, and I am never hungry, and it hasn't really been too much of a put-out for me to do it. It's not nearly as hard for me as I thought it might be.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking for ward to a big Dairy Queen Oreo Brownie Earthquake thingy as soon as this is over! Or maybe a Sonic Oreo Blast. Or maybe some hot french fries from McDonalds. Or maybe a cheese enchilada...

What the Fuck Wednesday

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

As stated on the website:
"Gimps have vaginas too, fellas."

Today is the first day of the rest of my life...

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

or something like that.

Actually, I started my cleanse yesterday. Yep, 21 days without alcohol, sugar, animal products, gluten, or caffeine. I know, sounds stupid, huh? Why punish myself like that? Well, I suwannee had this great idea to follow Kathy Freston's advice and do the cleanse, and I jumped on the bandwagon.

So far, last week, I eliminated Diet Coke (I was addicted) and red meat from my diet.

This week starts the rest. I have had few minor headaches (which could be related to my children, and not withdrawal) and a successful grocery shopping trip.

I can't for the life of me remember where I got this image. I saved it because I wanted to buy it, but dang if I can remember who did it.

There are many, many fresh fruits and veggies (including squash, zucchini, cucumbers, sweet corn, green peppers and okra in my very own backyard garden) to eat out there this time of year, and that might be the only reason I survive this.

I am really not looking to cleanse as such, but more to re-set my eating and remind myself to make better food choices. I love me some food, now, and I don't plan on never having ice cream or a T-bone again.

Wish us luck...

Congrats are in order!

I woke my 6 year old daughter up early today to let her know what her life has in store for her!
**print by H Armstrong Roberts, and is too cute!

I made these things this weekend:

Sunday, July 6, 2008

First, with zucchini straight from my garden:
Zucchini Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, recipe found here
(and, OMG, they were so good. I'm making them again)

Gingery Cilantro Dip, recipe found here
(most everyone raved about this one too)
And, with 8 ears of sweet corn picked fresh from our garden, I made a salad of:
corn
cherry tomatoes, quartered
feta cheese
garden fresh basil
vinegar
olive oil
sea salt
pepper

YUMMO!
Hope your 4th of July was as tasty as ours was!
